The Summrhill House in Guthrie, Oklahoma has history that certainly makes it one of a kind.  It was built by one of the community leaders, N.F. Cheadle, in 1895.  But the story started before this.  N.F. Cheadle was young and in love and wanted to marry the love of his life.  However, the young lady's father felt the lad was not good enough.  Needless to say, there was great disappointment.  But N.F. Cheadle was not giving up.  He left and became successful in many business ventures in Guthrie, Oklahoma, such as a coal company and a brewery.  He opened the Blue Belle Saloon, a few blocks from Summerhill, and hired Tom Mix in 1902.  It is still a popular place for socializing.  Tom Mix, one of the early turn-of-the-century cowboy actors tended the bar from 1902 until 1904.  After his success, N.F. Cheadle was then able to marry the love of his life.  When Mr. Cheadle brought his wife to Guthrie, he also brought wagons of the materials for the house, such as the woodworking.  The woodwork is still very unique and one of the gifts that a visitor to Summerhill will appreciate.  Carrie Nation, a termperance advocate, was known for her radical ways of attempting to abolish drinking establishments and at one time threw an ax into the Blue Belle Bar striking the bar.  The ax marks can still be seen to this day.
